Admissions

Admission to Nursery

At Sandhurst Nursery we promote a safe and nurturing environment, enabling children to grow in confidence as individuals and develop an understanding of kindness and respect towards others. We do this through providing a creative, broad and fun play-based curriculum. The environment and experienced staff aim to foster children’s natural curiosity, encouraging them to become critical thinkers who embrace the challenges they meet.
Children start Nursery in the September after they turn three. We offer morning part time places (15 hours) and some full time places (30 hours), depending on eligibility.

The nursery school day is Monday to Friday:
Part time: 9.00 – 12.00
Full Time: 9.00 – 3.00

If you wish your child to attend our nursery, we recommend you complete our Nursery Application form when your child is 2 – 2½ years old. The application form is available from the school office or through the link below.

For children due to start school in September 2029, those children born 1st September 2016 – 31st August 2017, the form must be returned to the school office, before 1st May 2020, to ensure you are offered a place during our offer round for 2020/2021 school year.
Our admission procedure is in accordance with the guidance provided by Lewisham Council and follow the same guidelines as the Local Authority criteria for all admissions to school. First priority is given to Looked After Children and those children with an identified Special Educational Need for whom Sandhurst Nursery has been identified as offering the most appropriate provision. Priority then goes to children with siblings at the school and then finally according to distance from the school.
Please note that being in our Nursery does not mean automatic entry into our reception classes, even if your child is a sibling of a child already in school. All parents /carers of a Nursery child must apply for a Reception through the central admission procedures detailed under Reception Admissions.

Application for Admission to the Nursery

Admissions to Reception

The Local Authority co-ordinates all applications for Reception places. The application process is usually open from September and the deadline is in the January before your child is eligible to start school in September.

We arrange tours of the school during the Autumn term for prospective parents / carers and we are always pleased to answer any queries.
Forms must be returned to:

Admissions and Appeals Team, Laurence House, Catford, SE6 4RU

Attendance at Sandhurst Nursery does not in any way guarantee a place in our reception class and the school has no control over the admission process.

Once you have been notified of an offer of a place, you will be invited to an induction meeting with the Headteacher. Here you will learn about our school in more detail and how you can help your child prepare for starting school. We also offer ‘stay-and-play’ sessions during the Summer term so that you and your child have the chance to familiarise yourself with the layout of the school, the names of some staff and important details like where to hang your coat and how to find the toilets!
