We recognise that the children in our school are a diverse group of learners and that we need a curriculum that is both relevant to and exciting for them. We aim to provide for the full academic, personal and social development of each pupil, and to encourage children to work and think independently and to make decisions within a moral code. We aim to foster a love of learning and develop the key skills that will enable children to be independent thinkers and effective citizens of the future. We want our children to be creative and reflective learners, who know how to live safe, healthy and fulfilling lives and make a positive contribution to our society.
The world is changing very quickly and we need to equip our children for the challenges to come in order to be successful.
As a school we follow the National Curriculum, which sets out the key requirements to be taught to children at certain times. From these core requirements we have developed key topics of interest through which we can ensure these key requirements are taught. Our curriculum is both broad and flexible, rooted in practical experiences and makes links with previous learning to really enable every child to be the best learner that they can possibly be. We enrich the curriculum where we can through visits, visitors and opportunities for outdoor learning.
Each year group works on a new topic each half term, eg: Me and my Family, Pirates and The Rainforest. Through these topics we cover all aspects of the curriculum as well as teaching basic skills of reading, writing and maths.
