Introducing your new Sandhurst Primary School Governing Board

Hello,

Along with Rebecca Dove, our Headteacher, we’re the new Governing Board of Sandhurst Primary School. Some of us served on the former Infant and Junior Governing Boards and others are new to the post.

Our role is to support and challenge the school – rather like a critical friend – to ensure continual improvements to the education of all our pupils. Together with school leaders and staff, we want all children at Sandhurst to make excellent progress and have excellent experiences in a safe and caring environment.

We’re all volunteers and we all feel extremely proud and privileged to be able to serve the school in this way.

Hello from the Governors!

Being a Governor is an important role involving support and challenge towards constant improvement of the education of all our pupils.

The vision of our school is:

At Sandhurst Primary School we believe in excellent progress for all and excellent experiences for all in a safe and caring environment.

As Governors we help to achieve this and it is a really rewarding job!

If you are interested in joining our Governing Body, please contact http://www.lewisham.gov.uk/getinvolved/influence/school-governors/pages/default.aspx to find out if there are any vacancies.

The Tasks of a Governing Body

The Governing Body consists of parents, staff, local community representatives and Local Authority appointees.

Governors make many important decisions about the school, including setting the budget each year and monitoring all areas of school life.
Governors are also responsible for the appointment of the headteacher.

Governors meet at least once every term as a body and also termly in their committees. We have 3 main committees: the Finance, Premises, Health and Safety Committee looks at all issues relating to these key areas in the school; the Curriculum Committee looks at all issues relating to achievement and standards as well as the curriculum; the Personnel and Staff Welfare Committee is responsible for all aspects of staffing, contracts, policies and so on. The committees report back on a termly basis to the full Governing Body.

Minutes of all meetings are available for public inspection.

Our governors are very involved in the life of the school. They regularly visit the school to monitor aspects of the school such as health and safety, school improvement priorities or the impact of new initiatives.

Parent governors are sometimes around at the start and end of days on the playground. If you wish to contact a governor, details are available from the school office.
